India extends humanitarian aid to Lebanon as Israel continues striking Hezbollah

India has extended humanitarian assistance in the form of medical supplies to war-torn Lebanon, a country that has seen its infrastructure ravaged by Israeli strikes carried out against terrorist group Hezbollah.
India dispatched 11 tons of medical supplies to the Middle East nation, Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, said on Friday.
“India sends humanitarian assistance to Lebanon. A total of 33 tons of medical supplies are being sent. First tranche of 11 tons of medical supplies was dispatched today”, Jaiswal said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
“The consignment comprises a wide range of pharmaceutical products, including cardiovascular medications, NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), anti-inflammatory agents, antibiotics and anaesthetics”, Jaiswal’s post added.
Israel has launched a ground campaign in Lebanon over the past month and is now planning a response to an October 1 missile attack carried out by Iran, an ally of Hamas and Lebanon’s Hezbollah.
On Thursday, an Israeli airstrike destroyed Lebanon’s municipal headquarters in the biggest attack on an official Lebanese state building since the Israeli air campaign began there. At least 16 people were killed, among whom was the mayor of a major town in south Lebanon, in the strikes.
A day prior to that, at least 22 people were killed in Israeli airstrikes across Lebanon.
The Lebanese Health Ministry said that a total of 2,377 people have been killed in the country since last October as a result of the Israeli offensive against Hezbollah, news agency AP reported. Also, some 1.2 million people have been displaced in Lebanon, including over 400,000 children.
